In heterosexual relationships, women are more likely to be the lower earners, meaning their jobs are considered a lower priority when disruptions come along. It's downright dangerous for some people.⁠ ⁠ ⁠ 😞⁠ .⁠ ⁠ ⁠ We're stressed, bored, scared, confused, overwhelmed and who knows what else.⁠ ⁠ .⁠ 😞⁠ .⁠ ⁠ ⁠ But have a look at this chart. These are the estimated numbers of lives we've all saved by staying at home. ⁠ Almost 60,000 people up to March 31st. (In total, for the countries listed)⁠ ⁠ .⁠ 😞⁠ .⁠ ⁠ 60,000 families who get to share another day together. 60,000 funerals that didn't have to happen.⁠ 60,000 people who get to wake up again today.⁠ ⁠ ⁠ .⁠ 😞⁠ .⁠ ⁠ I don't know, that just seemed like a really flippin' great statistic in the middle of all of this.⁠ ⁠ ⁠ .⁠ 😞⁠ .⁠ ⁠ ⁠ So well done you. Are you on lock down or just social distancing?) 😷 Understanding flattening the curve from @live_science “The faster the infection curve rises, the quicker the local health care system gets overloaded beyond its capacity to treat people. As we're seeing in Italy, more and more new patients may be forced to go without ICU beds, and more and more hospitals may run out of the basic supplies they need to respond to the outbreak. 😷 A flatter curve, on the other hand, assumes the same number of people ultimately get infected, but over a longer period of time. A slower infection rate means a less stressed health care system, fewer hospital visits on any given day and fewer sick people being turned away. 😷 For a simple metaphor, consider an office bathroom. it only had so many stalls. If everyone decides to go at the same time, there are problems. Kids all around Barcelona are doing it (maybe all over Europe?). We’re on coronavirus lock down here in Barcelona We’re on coronavirus lock down here in Barcelona / Catalonia / Spain. It’s scary but we’re keeping our heads up! ✊🏻 . . It’s day four and already in our house there’s been blood, underpants on heads, so many lego towers, tears, and lots of cuddles. 🤪 . . We’re lucky there’s two of us adults here and we can both work from home. We’re taking shifts juggling work and our little twins (not literally) 🤓 . . Every evening at 8pm we open the windows and do a massive community round of applause for the amazing work of the health care workers. We wave across at our neighbours and talk about how messy our houses are with all the kids play (jeebus, so messy!) 👏🏻 . . We’ve set a routine. It definitely involves some Netflix. 🙌🏻 . . People are making rainbow signs to decorate the front of their houses so other kids can look out and see something fun and happy. (I’ll share ours in Stories once we hang ours up!) 🌈 . . It’s still scary and ominous and surreal that we’re all on lockdown. I’m trying to think of it like @mattdpearce said… by staying indoors and keeping safe “we’re sacrificing so we can give nurses doctors and hospitals a fighting chance” (via @womensrights_news ) . . When we’re forced to make a decision over health and work… health always comes first.
